(Except it's normally with telescopes on opposite sides of the Earth or something.) The less apparent shift there is, the smaller the parallax is and the farther away the something is. Parallax in astronomy is a way of measuring distance where you stay at a certain distance away from something, move, and see how much it seems to shift. Parallax is the effect where objects seem to change position when you move somewhere else. (For anyone who's curious, a parsec is an actual unit of measurement, approximately 3.26 lightyears.) And it has a grid, where each square is 1,500 parsecs on a side. So, the only thing I could find on the internet about how long hyperspace travel actually takes was that it can't have taken the Millennium Falcon more than two days to get from Tatooine to Alderaan in A New Hope.Īs far as I know, the best way to find stuff like this out is the Star Wars Interactive Galaxy Map (or IGM, because I'm not typing that every time), which has planets from both Canon and Legends, sectors, regions, and you can zoom in and out.
